An Afrocentric fashion house identity, rooted in Akwa Ibom heritage.
Ankara began as Dutch industrial batik made for Indonesia, was rejected there, and ended up on the West African coast — where women renamed it, gave it meaning, and made it the most recognisable African textile in the world.
Ankara Rebel is a premium fashion house built on that idea. We designed a monogram, house pattern and woven jacquard tape that span tailored silk shirting, streetwear, bags and kidswear — holding from a 15mm embroidered label to a full campaign.
The system draws on the okpoho manilla, the region’s pre-colonial currency, and the palm fronds of the 1929 Women’s War — expressed through a modern design language rather than literal illustration. Every symbol earns its place.
The house pattern and woven jacquard tape were drawn to work at every size, from a 15mm label to a full garment panel, giving the brand a consistent texture across product lines.
From tailored silk shirting to streetwear, duffles, caps and kidswear, the identity flexes across categories while staying unmistakably Ankara Rebel.
